X-kinases

IWe believe this uncharacterized family of enzymes allow insects to do something that vertebrates can not : detoxify by phosphorylation. While this activity has been known for decades the enzymes have not formally been identified yet- although we hope to publish on this soon.

In this gene phylogeny the blue clades represent x-kinases for which each Drosophila has a single genme, the green triangles represent the clades featruring gene duplication within the Drosophila radiation, the red clades represent gene loss, and the yellow have had loss and gain. This was generated by Jack Scanlan for his Masters thesis.
