Carboxyl esterases

These enzymes typically catalyze the conversion of an ester into an alcohol and an acid. They include Acetylcholine Esterase that is the molecular target of organophosphate and carbamate insecticides. Other esterases play roles in breaking down or sequestering such insecticides.
